Seed is a natural, perishable product, so we handle quality concerns through a defined claims process rather than open-ended returns. This policy sets out what we guarantee, what evidence we need, and how quickly we respond.
What we guarantee
Where we have stated a germination percentage for a lot on the pack or invoice, we guarantee that the sealed lot met that figure when tested.
If the lot performs materially below that figure, and it has been stored and sown in line with the guidance supplied, we will replace the shortfall or issue a credit.
Where no germination figure was stated for a lot, we guarantee that the seed supplied is true to the species ordered and was clean, graded and fit for despatch.
Claim period
Quality claims must be raised within 30 days of delivery.
Claims for damage, shortage or an incorrect item must be raised within 7 days of delivery, as set out in our Shipping Policy.
Evidence we need
Your invoice number and the lot reference printed on the pack.
Photographs of the seed, the pack and the label as received.
Your sowing record: the date sown, quantity, method, any pre-treatment applied, and where and how the seed was stored between delivery and sowing.
Where possible, the results of a germination count on a representative sample — for example the number of seeds sown and the number that emerged.
How we assess a claim
We compare your evidence against our retained sample and test record for the same lot. Where the position is unclear, we may carry out a further germination test on the retained sample, or ask you to send back a sample of the seed supplied.
We assess whether the seed itself underperformed, or whether the result is explained by storage, sowing method or field conditions after delivery.
Response times
We acknowledge a claim within 2 working days of receiving it.
Where no further testing is needed, we give a decision within 10 working days. Where a further germination test is required, we give a decision within 30 days, because the test itself takes time to run.
Outcomes
Where a claim is upheld we will, at our option, replace the affected quantity in the next available season or issue a credit or refund of the price paid for that quantity. Replacement consignments are sent at our cost.
Refunds are made to the original payment method or by bank transfer, normally within 10 working days of the decision.
What is not covered
Loss of crop, loss of profit, labour, land preparation or plantation establishment costs.
Results affected by storage after delivery, incorrect or omitted pre-treatment, sowing outside the recommended season, or unsuitable site conditions.
Opened or partly used lots where the remaining seed cannot be assessed against the original lot, except where the claim is otherwise supported by the evidence above.
